This one day course is designed to introduce staff at researcher level to the grammar and disciplines of film-making. It will explain how to plan and shoot sequences, demystify technicalities and terminology and build confidence in communicating with contributors and crews.

- Telling stories in pictures and sound
- Shot sizes and how to use them
- The language of film-making
- Using the camera as a story-telling tool
- Framing, composition and lenses
- Shooting interviews (including crossing the line)
- Planning and shooting sequences
- An introduction to the Sony Z1 camera
As part of this workshop you will be sent a form to complete beforehand which involves a homework task. Throughout the training day you will carry out a number of practical exercises.
